Not only has Streetly sensation Connie Talbot scored the US Christmas No 1, she also has a new and famous fan - George Clooney. At the tender age of eight years old, she has already succeeded where hundreds of British stars three times her age have failed. But not content with outdoing famous Brits including Robbie Williams and Oasis by scoring a Christmas No1 in the US, Streetly's own superstar has given much of the nation's female population a reason to be jealous.
Fresh from performing before thousands of fans at the Heart of a Child charity event in Berlin, she was approached by film star George Clooney. "While Connie was singing, he was right at the front," said her proud mother Sharon.
"As soon as she'd finished and come off, he came straight over and said she was brilliant. He even asked her if she was married, and she was just giggling and said 'No'.
"I was just standing there, dumbstruck. But she just seems to take it all in her stride. I think she knew who he was from the Batman film he was in." Connie, along with Sharon and father Gavin, has just returned from a tour of the globe that saw her perform in front of tens of thousands in Korea. Sharon said her daughter was pleased to have secured the US Christmas No1 but that she was now more concerned with how she was going to get her presents.
"I found a letter she had written to Santa in her room," she said.
"It said 'Dear Santa, I'm just writing to let you know we haven't got a chimney, so how are you going to get the presents here?'. It was really nice. We've got a bit of a break now until the new year, so it will be nice to have a relaxing Christmas."
Her daughter is No1 in the Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart, with a cover version of Bob Marley's Three Little Birds, marking a return to the top slot after she knocked Coldplay off the top three weeks ago.
Connie, whose original performance on Britain's Got Talent went on to become the most-watched clip in You Tube's history with more than 45million views, has also enjoyed recent appearances on major US chat shows with stars such as Oprah Winfrey and Ellen Degeneres.
